You know the phrase – it’s just like riding a bike? Well, if you don’t already ride a bike regularly, it is time to put that into action!
Cycling is great for us for so many reasons. There are even a couple of countries and cities that have bike-friendly infrastructures as standard. The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Norway, China and Japan all have smart cycling infrastructures.
But even without dedicated pathing, cycling is a great choice.
So let’s take a look at a couple of reasons that you should be getting back on your bike, or investing in a Sunmono E-bike.
Brainpower
No matter what industry you work in, you probably already know that exercise has a hugely positive impact on your brain – looking specifically at productivity and motivation here.
Research by the University of Illinois found that just a 5 per cent improvement of cardiorespiratory fitness (from cycling) led to a huge 15% increase in mental tests!
When we cycle, we are actively building new brain cells in the hippocampus, which is the area of the brain responsible for memory.
Fitness levels
Perhaps you remember tearing up the streets as you rode your bike around with your friends when you were younger and aren’t sure you could manage that level of speed now. Well, you’ll be happy to know that cycling, like swimming, is very forgiving when it comes to your current fitness levels.
The pressure put on your joints is very low (apart from your butt! But those sitz pains, aka saddle soreness, pass pretty quickly). So no matter your fitness level or weight, you can comfortably cycle.
If you aren’t ready to cycle outside yet, then a few weeks on a practice static bike at home can help ease you into it. Alternatively cycling in the early morning can help build your confidence.
Saves cash
No doubt about it driving and commuting via public transport can be costly. Whereas if you ride your bike, the only thing you are spending is a little bit of energy. Of course, you should invest in a great bike lock.
Cycling produces zero carbon pollution and is one of the most environmentally friendly ways to travel. It has even been shown that it can be faster than driving to some locations if you live in a built-up city area.
The car traffic slows the driving process, so often, you are sitting still in the car rather than moving forward. By cycling instead of driving or taking public transport, much of the traffic is cut out.
Not only that, but you can get a cargo trailer and take your pet, your children, or a bag of stuff with you as you go!
Cycling is a gentle and reliable mode of transport. You can choose to do it for fun to explore the areas of nature you have nearby, or you might choose to bike all or partway to your work.
