Who else remembers Aaliyah’s iconic dress from the 2000 MTV Music Awards? The moment I saw her in it, I was mesmerised. It exuded sexy appeal without revealing too much, proving that sometimes less truly is more. As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to appreciate this philosophy. Showing just a hint of leg can make me feel sexy and confident while still leaving much to the imagination.
My love for Aaliyah’s dress inspired me to buy a similar one from Shein. While the original was unique, I opted for a pink animal print version to draw inspiration rather than copy it outright. I bought this dress specifically for a photo shoot, and it certainly turned heads the moment I put it on. It’s undeniably a show-stopper.
In my rendition, I chose to forgo the long train. Can you imagine navigating crowded streets trying to get the perfect shot with a trailing dress? Instead, I went for a version that falls to the ankle but made sure it included the faux fur trim.
